Michigan lands commitment from 7-foot German big Malick Kordel

Malick Kordel, a 7-foot center from Germany, has committed to Michigan, a source told On3.

Most recently, Kordel played for the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), Germany’s top professional basketball league. He averaged 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks in 24.5 minutes per game this season.

The 20-year-old adds frontcourt depth for the Wolverines and brings long-term upside as a developmental prospect.

Good news keeps coming for Dusty May as Michigan’s top transfer commit and projected first round NBA Draft pick — Yaxel Lendeborg — announced he would be withdrawing his name from the Draft and play for Wolverines in the upcoming season. Yaxel joins a strong transfer haul, joining Aday Mara from UCLA, Morez Johnson from Illinois, and Elliot Cadeau from North Carolina.

The Wolverines will also welcome in two freshmen — four-star SG Trey McKenney (No. 21 NATL) and four-star Winters Grady (No. 59 NATL).

In Year One of the Dusy May era, Michigan won the Big Ten tournament, taking down Wisconsin 59-53 in the championship game. The Wolverines made a run in March Madness, reaching the Sweet Sixteen before falling to Auburn, 78-65. Their overall record on the year was 27-10, a huge jump from their 8-24 record the season prior.
