Michigan lands a commitment from top tight end target Matt Ludwig

Billings (Montana) West On300 tight end Matt Ludwig has announced his commitment to Michigan.

The blue-chipper chose to play for head coach Sherrone Moore and his staff over an offer list that also included Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and others.

“It really came down to the personal feel at Michigan,” Ludwig said. He visited several times including a return during the spring. 

“When I was on campus I knew it was home. It was all about just listening to God and he told me Michigan was the place for me. That’s what it really came down to.”

On3 tabs Ludwig as the nation’s No. 5 tight end and No. 92 prospect overall. The On3 Industry tabs him as the No. 10 tight end in the country and No. 204 prospect overall. He becomes commit No. 7 for the Maize and Blue in the class of 2026.

“I love the culture there at Michigan and the hardworking mentality that goes into that place every day,” Ludwig said. “I love the relationship I have with all the players and coaches and how special it is to be a Michigan football player. I love all the staff and everyone that builds that football program there.”

Ludwig was recruited by future position coach Steve Casula and Moore was prominent as well.

“Just the family feel and how important they made me feel and how big a priority they made me throughout this recruiting process,” Ludwig said. “The relationship I do have with Sherrone Moore, Steve Casula and the rest of the staff.”

Wolverines happy with the timing of the decision

Ludwig will be back at Michigan the weekend of June 20 and canceled the official visits he was going to take elsewhere.

“I didn’t want to drag it out,” Ludwig said. “I knew that was the place for me and wanted to be honest and upfront with the other coaches and not carry on the recruiting process when I knew Michigan was my home.”

As a junior Ludwig had 53 receptions for 822 yards and four touchdowns.
