Nate Bargatze pitches for Georgia Five-Star Plus+ QB commit Jared Curtis to flip to Vanderbilt

The story of the weekend in the recruiting world is Vanderbilt’s push to flip Nashville Christian Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Jared Curtis from Georgia.
The local gunslinger is on campus this weekend to take in the ESPN College GameDay atmosphere and watch the Commodores take on Missouri on Saturday afternoon. While Curtis has reaffirmed his pledge to the Bulldogs, there’s a wave of buzz around Vandy’s push for the No. 1 QB in the 2026 cycle.
Everyone on campus is taking notice, including comedian Nate Bargatze. The Tennessee native was on the GameDay set as Saturday’s guest picker and he referenced Curtis not once, but twice, pleading for the QB to stay home.
“Went to a small christian school, kind of like a Nashville Christian where Jared Curtis went, look for him to be coming here next year, also,” Bargatze, a longtime Vandy fan, told Jess Sims before heading to the desk to make his picks.
He added while sitting between Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit: “It’s hard not to just remind Jared Curtis how much I would love for you to come to Vanderbilt. We’re local kids…become best friends.”
Herbstreit then acknowledged Curtis and his current commitment to Georgia. He’s now chosen the Bulldogs twice, with the second time coming on May 5, as UGA beat out Oregon.
Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong first reported earlier this week that Curtis had been on Vandy’s campus this week and was slated to return this weekend. While it may be easy to write the Commodores off when it comes to a potential flip, Wiltfong says not to count out head coach Clark Lea and Co.

“Vanderbilt’s pursuit of the local Nashville Christian star is not one to be taken lightly. While the Curtis camp is saying all the right things about how firm the quarterback’s pledge to Georgia is, we are hearing there is real dialogue happening about a potential future at Vanderbilt,” he wrote on Friday.
“There are a lot of really cool things happening with Vanderbilt football and Diego right now and it meant a lot to Jared for him to come down the road to his game, show his support and encourage him to stop by,” Curtis’s agent Peter Webb of QB Reps said this week.
“Let’s be clear – Jared is a Bulldog,” Webb continued. “He’s enjoyed seeing Vanderbilt succeed because he thinks it’s great for the city and he loves Diego. No question about it, but he’s pumped to go to Georgia. He’s pumped to be a Bulldog. That’s his squad.”
Curtis spoke with Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett this weekend about the visit and his commitment to Georgia: “I’m just going down there to watch the game with my coaches and a teammate that’s looking at Vanderbilt,” he said. “It’ll be a fun time. At the end of the day, I’m still a Bulldog.”
All eyes will be on Curtis and his recruitment this weekend and beyond.
