Ohio State offers elite Florida State CB commit Jay Timmons

On June 24, Pittsburgh Pine-Richland cornerback Lawrence “Jay” Timmons flipped his commitment from Indiana to Florida State.
The son of former FSU and NFL linebacker Lawrence Timmons, the 5-foot-10.5, 185-pounder is currently set to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for the Seminoles at the next level. On Tuesday, though, he added an intriguing offer.
Ohio State has officially jumped in the mix for the rising defensive back. Timmons announced the offer from the Buckeyes via social media:
The Buckeyes already have an elite haul in the secondary this cycle. Three blue-chip DBs are in the OSU class to date: Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic four-star safety Blaine Bradford, Jacksonville Bolles four-star safety Simeon Caldwell and Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic four-star CB Jordan Thomas.
Timmons continues to see his stock soar. He’s now the No. 28 recruit and No. 2 corner in the Rivals300, which updated this week. His recruitment picked up this summer.
Back in April, Indiana swiped an early pledge from the then-three-star. Florida State eventually got involved with an offer in June. Having the legacy edge, the Noles capitalized, got Timmons to Tallahassee for an official visit and then flipped him from the Hoosiers.

“I wanted FSU because it’s my dream school, the school I’ve always been a fan of and it’s where I was born,” Timmons told Warchant after picking up the offer this summer. “Having an offer from Florida State is literally a dream come true.”
One of the many flips for FSU this cycle, Timmons is also one of five DBs in the fold for head coach Mike Norvell and Co. He’s continued to dominate as a senior for Pine-Richland and is now the No. 3 recruit in Pennsylvania, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
Ohio State also offered Maryland safety commit Khmari Bing on Tuesday evening. The Buckeyes are clearly looking to add another DB to a class that currently features 21 commits and ranks No. 9 nationally, per the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Scout’s Take on Jay Timmons
On Monday, Rivals National Scout Cody Bellaire wrote this of Timmons as a prospect, explaining why he made another big move in the Rivals300:
“Timmons is one of the most complete defensive backs in this cycle and is someone we would consider a three-dimensional defender. He can play in the box, he can man cover, and he can play in zone. He truly excels in all of these areas and has such a strong blend of physicality and finesse. He can be fluid in coverage and stay sticky when the ball is in the air. He has the violence at the point of attack and the tenacity to bring down ball carriers. But most importantly, he has fantastic instincts and that allows him to see things happen before anyone else on the field. Timmons has a case for one of the most college-ready skillsets of any back half defender in this class.”
