Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier four-star linebacker Karsten Busch has decommitted from Louisville, he announced on Monday.

Busch had been committed to the Cardinals since March, when he chose them over Kentucky, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Minnesota and others. But with just over a week until National Signing Day, he is reopening his recruitment.

“I’m extremely proud to be born and raised from Louisville, Kentucky,” he wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank the University of Louisville for recruiting me especially Coach Brohm, Coach Ivey and Coach Marrow. After further conversation with my family I am decommiting from the University of Louisville.”

According to Rivals’ Greg Smith, Miami, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt are among the schools to watch heading into signing day on December 3.

Soon after Busch’s decommitment, Rivals’ Steve Wiltong logged an expert prediction in favor of the Badgers to land him.

Busch is one of Kentucky’s most productive defensive prospects

He has had a breakout season as a senior this fall, totaling 72 tackles, eight tackles for loss and a sack for St. X, which is two wins away from a Kentucky Class 6A state title.

The 6-foot-2, 221-pounder is the No. 449 overall prospect and No. 34 LB in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services Rivals, however, is higher on him than both 247 and ESPN. In the updated Rivals rankings, he checks in as a four-star prospect and the No. 19 linebacker in the class.

The Badgers, now considered the favorites to land him, hold the nation’s No. 47 class but could be due for an improvement after announcing head coach Luke Fickell would return in 2026.
