Rush Propst looking to turn a high school football program into a national brand

Whether it’s in Alabama or Georgia, another thing that is certain for Coosa Christian School head coach Rush Propst other than he wants to continue coaching is he wants to take a high school football program to another level.

Propst wants to take a Alabama or Georgia program and turn them into a nationally recognized brand.

According to a ITG Next report, the polarizing high school football coaching figure told the outlet that he not only would like to extend his career on the sidelines, but also take whichever program he’s at the helm of and build up a national brand.

“I’d very much like to go to a place and build a national brand,” Propst said in the ITG report. “I built Hoover and then Colquitt County into state powerhouse programs, as well as a national brand at both schools. I coached at Valdosta, but they were already a national brand when I got there. I’m wide open as far as my future is concerned, but I know this: I’m not done coaching.”

Propst is fresh off of leading Coosa Christian School to the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) Class 2A state championship and is no stranger to hoisting trophies. The five other times in his high school coaching career Propst had the pleasure of hoisting the AHSAA state title trophy, with all of those being when he starred as the head coach at Hoover (Ala.).

What could be potentially different about Propst’s next stop is he doesn’t want to take on a team that is already a national known brand, but hopes to take on a project to where he could turn the team into one. His previous coaching stops at Colquitt County (Ga.), Hoover and Valdosta (Ga.) were three programs that were pretty well branded when it came to their respective states.

Rivals caught up with Propst after the 2A title victory back on Dec. 6 and the legendary high school football head coach made it very clear that he wasn’t done putting on the headset and holding the play sheet just yet.

“I’m not done with coaching,” Propst said to Rivals. “I want to coach. Coosa (Christian) just has to make their mind up on what they want to do. If they want to bring the other guy back, I’m okay either way. I’m gonna coach, whether it’s at Coosa or somewhere else. I’m open for business. I want to finish my career in the right way. I think whether that’s in Georgia or Alabama, it doesn’t matter. I want to coach about another six or seven years.”
