South Florida dual-threat 2027 quarterback James Perrone commits to USF

The 2027 quarterbacks continue to come off the board, and a talented signal-caller from South Florida intends to stay in-state for the next three to four years.
Dual-threat quarterback James Perrone, from Miami Southridge High School, committed to the University of South Florida on Sunday evening, a day after the program defeated the University of Florida for the first time in school history.
“I got a lot of trust in the coaching staff,” Perrone said. “I think it’s a great time to lock in my spot, especially with a lot of other schools are taking quarterbacks. I just think it’s a perfect spot for me. I’ve had a lot of talks with the coaches. They’ve been on me since I got the offer.”
Perrone chose USF over Appalachian State, UCF, and West Virginia. He believes that head coach Alex Golesh and offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach Joel Gordon can develop him to the next level.
“They’ve shown it with the past quarterbacks that they developed. They coached Brock Purdy and Hendon Hooker. So they’re known for developing quarterbacks. You see the development with Byrum Brown, how he’s changed in such a short time. It’s a great spot.”
The rising 2027 quarterback watched his future school defeat Florida in the Swamp while on a visit to USF’s rivals, UCF.

“I thought it was awesome,” Perrone said of the experience of watching USF beat Florida while attending UCF’s 68-7 win over North Carolina A&T. “I was at the UCF game watching that USF game on my phone.”
Perrone enjoyed the visit to Orlando, but it’s the program in Tampa that gained the commitment from the six-foot-two, 170-pound QB.
The South Florida quarterback will travel to Tampa in two weeks for a game-day visit when the Bulls host South Carolina State and may be in attendance for USF’s road game versus Miami this week. Perrone also wants to visit Florida State at some point, but is focused on playing for the Bulls in the future.
“I think USF will be getting a dog and a gamer. Someone who can adjust to any offense, execute the offense to the best of my ability, and is ready to work.”
