2026 TE Keawe Browne 'moving on' from silent Texas commitment

Corona (Calif.) Centennial three-star tight end Keawe Browne is reopening his recruitment.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder was yet to publicly announce a commitment to Texas, but he revealed on Sunday that he has been silently pledged to the SEC program. That’s no longer the case, as Browne says he wishes to pursue interest from other schools.
“I appreciate the staff at Texas for offering me and bring my family on an official visit this summer. I committed to Texas and agreed to their process of postponing my announcement as they sort out their roster with ’26 commits and new financial terms with the NIL landscape – however with recent changes in my recruitment and further interest from other universities I would like to officially visit in the fall, my family and those close to me believe it is in my best interest to re-open my recruiting,” he wrote in a post on X.
“I will be moving on from the University of Texas. We are looking forward to finding my home where I am most valued in all aspects.”
Browne has been trending to the Longhorns in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine this summer. Last month, three picks were logged in favor of Texas landing the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder. Browne took an official visit to Austin on the weekend of June 20, not long after landing an offer from TEs coach Jeff Banks and Co.
“I’m definitely excited,” Browne told InsideTexas ahead of the official visit. “(Banks) hasn’t said too much, just talking about the OV, and how they have bigger tight ends coming in and they can see me as a route-running TE, and also a blocking TE. So, kind of a good all-around tight end.”

The likes of Boise State, Cal, Maryland, Purdue, Arizona, USC and BYU have also previously extended offers to Browne. He is the No. 89 TE and No. 128 player in California in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
Texas is currently without a tight end commitment in its 2026 recruiting class. The Longhorns have been on fire this summer and now have the nation’s No. 4 class, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
Of the top 100 tight ends in the 2026 cycle, 90 are already committed, leaving Browne as one of the top options still on the board at the position this summer. He plays for a high-profile high school football program in the Golden State, too. Last season, Centennial finished as the No. 20 team in the nation, per the Rivals Composite Rankings.
