Texas Tech adds four-star TE Matt Ludwig to 2026 recruiting class
Billings (Mont.) West four-star 2026 tight end Matt Ludwig has committed to Texas Tech.
The former Michigan signee will enroll early in Lubbock. Ludwig becomes member No. 21 of this class for head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders staff, adding to a haul the Rivals Industry previously ranked No. 22 nationally.
Future position coach Josh Cochrane was the lead recruiter for Ludwig who asked out of his letter-of-intent at Michigan this week and quickly pivoted to Texas Tech. He’s been to Lubbock several times during his recruitment.
The family feel at Texas Tech along with the program trajectory made playing for McGuire and company right for Ludwig.
“Have a strong relationship with Coach Cochran, and love the energy Coach McGuire brings everyday,” Ludwig has said in the past. “Really enjoy the family environment they have in the program.”

Tabbed by the Rivals Industry as the nation’s No. 9 tight end, Ludwig is the No. 200 overall prospect in the country.
As a senior the uber-athletic Ludwig turned 50 receptions into 736 yards and 10 touchdowns. His head coach Rob Stanton has heaped praise on him during the process.
“We all know how good he is, how explosive an athlete he is, how, honestly, he’s a lot better than most of the kids we have around here,” Stanton told The Wolverine’s Ethan McDowell. “And he’s a generational talent, but I think the best thing is he’s such an unselfish kid. Whether he gets the ball five times a game, zero or 15, all he wants to do is win, and that’s his number one goal— to hopefully be in that last game of the year.”
