The Pula twins, Jaron and Kennan flip from Utah and will sign with BYU
The Pula twins, Jaron and Kennan have flipped their commitments from Utah to BYU and will sign with the Cougars.
This is actually the second flip for the talented athletes out of American Fork (Utah) Lone Peak. The twins originally committed to UCLA but backed off that commitment and announced for the Utes in July.
BYU was always a favorite for the both Pula’s and even though the Cougars offered in June, they weren’t really going after the two as hard as other programs including Utah.
Over the last month, BYU picked up the pace and really started to prioritize the twins. Just when they seemed sold on the Cougs and ready to commit, speculation heated up that BYU head coach Kalani Sitake could potentially bolt for the Penn State job.
“We both wanted to play for Kalani,” Kennan Pula said. “He’s been our guy from the jump and we were even ready to follow him to Penn State if he went there.
“He ended up staying and we’re really excited to play for him. He’s been constantly saying he’ll take care of us and he’s in our corner and it shows.”
Jaron Pula echoed much of what Kennan said.
“Kalani is a great guy and we’re excited to play for him,” Jaron said. “It’s not just him though, having coach Fesi (Sitake, WR coach) by his side makes it even better.
“I love the fan base and how much care goes in to the players. I’m just really excited and grateful to be a part of something big and grow with this program.”
Both players are very talented and are high ceiling athletes. Jaron is a two-way player that we like more at receiver.
“I think I can play both ways but they truly see me as a receiver so that’s where I’ll be focusing,” Jaron said. “I never expected to be going to BYU but everything happens for a reason and I’m very excited about the opportunity.”

He has rare traits for a receiver in terms of his size, athleticism, hands and long speed. He boasts a twitchy 6-foot-3, 185 pound frame and plays with initial quickness and has some suddenness in his game.
He has a large catch radius that allows him to dominate in jump ball and 50-50 ball situations. He runs well after the catch and shows some open field wiggle as well.
Kennan is also a two-way player who probably has a higher ceiling at safety. He had a highlight reel one handed interception that went viral earlier this season that showed the kind of athlete he is.
“BYU likes me as a two-way player,” Kennan said. “They see me as an athlete that can play both ways but I’ll start out at safety first.
“It’s exciting to be a part of this BYU class that has a chance to be one of the best they have ever had. I know I’m going to be in a fight to earn my spot but I just got to stay down and work and I know I’ll be good.”
At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, Kennan has a big frame, runs well and has shown excellent football instincts. As a junior, he scored touchdowns at receiver, safety and on a kickoff return and the game just looks easy for him.
He’s a smooth strider, very fluid as an athlete, shows range in the secondary and covers a lot ground. He’s a willing hitter as well and has shown improved physicality over the last year.
