Austin Brown, a three-star shooting guard in the 2026 class, has committed to Maryland, he told On3.

The 6-foot-8 rising senior out of Lufkin High (TX) took an official visit to the Terrapins last week and now has officially pledged his commitment to the program.

Buzz Williams and his staff recruited Brown during their time at Texas A&M. Their pursuit of him continued with their move to College Park.

Brown received other offers from schools like Arizona State, Minnesota, SMU, TCU, and others.

He is ranked as the No. 116 overall recruit in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s also the No. 31 ranked shooting guard and the No. 11 player in Texas.

Brown on his commitment to Maryland

Austin Brown went in-depth on his commitment to Maryland with On3.

“I first met Coach Buzz and staff while they were at Texas A&M. My family and I had a great connection with the entire staff. Once we learned that coach had moved to Maryland, we knew we wanted to take a visit. To see that his players and entire staff followed him to Maryland spoke volumes to the kind of guy we felt he was. My family and I loved our visit to Maryland. The campus was amazing and the entire staff and community that we met on the visit were so welcoming. I can honestly say that it felt like the closest place to home.”

What led to his trust in Buzz Williams and the coaching staff?

“My trust in coach Buzz and his staff is due to his trust in me. He saw my potential from an early age and he never wavered. I truly believe that he sees my potential and what I can bring to his basketball program and I’m so excited for that to be in Maryland.”

Brown is excited to play for the alma mater of his mentors, John Lucas.

“I think one of the things that I am the most excited about is to have the opportunity to play for the same Alma mater that one of my biggest mentors, John Lucas, played for. I have been blessed to play for his JL3 organization all these years and excited to carry that on at his Alma mater.”

In his own words, what type of player is Maryland getting in Brown?

“I am a very versatile player who can play multiple positions. I believe my size allows me to see the court and play make for others extremely well, while allowing me to score at all three levels. I definitely feel like my strength will be knocking down shots from around the arc.”
