Top 2026 recruit Amayah "Sunshine" Garcia commits to Washington

Top 2026 recruit Amayah “Sunshine” Garcia has committed to Washington, she told Rivals. The 5-foot-11 guard from DeSoto (TX) Faith Family Academy chose the Huskies over Illinois, Louisville, Ole Miss, NC State, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, Baylor, TCU, Georgia and Kansas.
“I built a relationship with the coaches over the past year or two,” she told Rivals. “Once I went on my official visit, I loved everything about it. The coaches, the team, just how every everybody was just so genuine…I feel like Washington just checked off so many boxes — coaching style, play style, academics, player development, culture, team chemistry, just everything, really. I was just like, this is the perfect fit, perfect opportunity. Just everything is right.”
Her relationships with the staff have been strong over the past few years and her relationships with the current players are growing.

“A few of the players there reached out to me,” she said. “The relationship kind of grew. Brynn McGaughy, she played on the Adidas circuit, so I kind of knew her already. The coaches are great and they’ve been just so steady with communication and supporting me in my games. This last AAU tournament, I didn’t play, but Coach Langley was still coming to watch me and watch the team, even though I wasn’t playing. That literally speaks volumes of how much they really want me and need me.”
The play style was another factor in Garcia’s decision.
“It’s definitely a pro style offense,” she said. “They run a lot of stuff that you’ll see in the league — the WNBA. That’s somewhere I aspire to be, so getting that experience at the college level is just great for my development and just getting me prepared for that next level. I feel like I’ll fit in great there. I’ll probably be running the two guard there, so it’s gonna be good.”
