Top 2026 recruit Maddi Stewart commits to Nebraska

Top 2026 recruit Maddi Stewart has committed to Nebraska, she announced. The 5-9 combo guard chose the Huskers over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Missouri.
“The staff is really important,” Stewart previously told Rivals. “I really want to go somewhere that I could see myself for four years, so the staff and then just the roster of the team, is obviously important. Whenever I look at a school, I’m always looking to see what their play style is and how I would fit into their system. I feel like with these four schools, they all have a place for me.”
There were plenty of factors Stewart noted would play a role in her decision, but among the most important were level of competition and security.
“I also just want to make sure that I’m going somewhere where the coaches are going to be there for my four years,” Stewart said. “My plan is to stay there. I don’t want to try and hit the portal and hit the next thing. That’s not really what I’m into. The schools that I have listed are all in very competitive conferences. I think that competition is one of the biggest things to me, and I want to make sure that where I’m going, you don’t get to walk through any games and you’ve got to show up every night. I think with these four schools, that’s definitely going to happen.”

When Stewart previously talked to Rivals, she noted that Nebraska being further from home was something she struggled with — but Stewart values fit above all.
“Obviously, they’re very far from home, and I feel like that’s one of the hurdles that I’ve had to get over when I’m considering them,” Stewart said. “But honestly, from the start of my entire recruitment process, I’ve always said that I’m going to keep an open mind to every school, because I do want to go somewhere that I can stay for four years. So if that means that the school that best fits me is a little more miles away from home, I’m willing to make that sacrifice.”
Stewart’s relationship with the staff was also strong from the jump.
“With Nebraska, they have the facilities for a great team, and they have the roster, and they have the coaches,” Stewart said. “I know that Coach [Amy] Williams is not going anywhere. She has made it openly clear to me that Nebraska is where she wants to be and where she intends to be until, you know, obviously, something changes. But just that part, that reassurance that the staff is going to be there with her throughout the years that I would be there, I feel like that’s what makes Nebraska feel special to me. I know that those would be the coaches that I’m playing under, and I know the team pretty well, because I’ve visited quite a few times, and so that’s that’s reassuring as well.”
