Top running back of 2026 class Savion Hiter signs with Michigan
Louisa County (Mineral, VA) running back Savion Hiter made it official with Michigan on Wednesday, signing with the Wolverines. The five-star-rated running back chose the Wolverines over Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee.
“It’s such a great place,” Hiter said after making his commitment. “Everybody keeps their discipline. It’s like a brotherhood over there. The culture is crazy… The development was a big part of it. The development is great.”
Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford was instrumental in gaining Hiter’s pledge and keeping him locked in with the maize and blue during the season. Alford’s prowess in developing running backs for the NFL has instilled confidence in Hiter.
“Coach Alford’s resume is amazing — Ezekiel Elliott and JK Dobbins,” Hiter said. “But he’s also such a genuine coach. He keeps it real with you. He doesn’t BS with you or beat around the bush. That’s what I like about him.”

Tennessee was the biggest threat to pull the five-foot-eleven, 200-pounder away from Ann Arbor, but the familiarity of a back from Virginia, Blake Corum, being successful at Michigan, helped convince him to be a Wolverine.
“They are a big program for running the ball,” Hiter told The Wolverine earlier this offseason. “You saw it this year. They have a history of great running backs coming out of there like Blake Corum, who is from Virginia.”
In his junior season, Hiter rushed for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns. The versatile back also logged 200 receiving yards to go along with 56 tackles on defense.
Hiter is expected to graduate in December and enroll at Michigan for the spring semester.
