Washington lands commitment from 4-star EDGE, No. 1 in-state recruit Derek Colman-Brusa

Seattle Kennedy Catholic four-star EDGE Derek Colman-Brusa has committed to Washington, he announced on Sunday evening.
The No. 1 recruit in the state, Colman-Brusa is staying home to play for head coach Jedd Fisch and the Huskies. He chose UW over USC, Ohio State and Oregon, among others.
Colman-Brusa is the No. 159 overall prospect and No. 21 EDGE in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks No. 131 overall in the 2026 On300.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is the second blue-chip recruit to commit to the Huskies this month. On May 2, Washington native and Mater Dei (Calif.) five-star offensive tackle Kodi Greene flipped his pledge from Oregon to UW. Greene ranks No. 10 nationally in the On300.
Colman-Brusa visited Washington again in March and will take his official visit at the end of May. He previously broke down his spring trip to the in-state Big Ten program with On3’s Steve Wiltfong:
“The environment was awesome,” Colman-Brusa said. “It was a smaller group meaning it was more intimate with the coaches. How many great opportunities are at the school. The UW has many connections and amazing resources. There is a whole collective group of great people. They spoke a lot about their new staff and where they will see themselves in the future.”
Huskies pushing for Top-15 recruiting class
The additions of Greene and now Colman-Brusa have vaulted Washington’s 2026 class up to No. 16 nationally, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. The pledge list now features 10 names.

Two weekends ago, Washington landed its quarterback this cycle, as Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic On300 QB Derek Zammit pledged. The four-star is On3’s No. 16 QB in the nation and a top-250 recruit overall.
“It was a lot of things,” Zammit told Wiltfong about why he picked UW. “Obviously Coach Fisch, Coach Dougherty, Coach Losman, obviously they all played big factors in it. Just the relationship … Obviously the coaches, then the offense they run is pretty big and pretty important to me. They run a pro-style offense. Coach Fisch watched my film and showed direct comparison to their offense and the 49ers and Rams. That’s important to me.”
Zammit aside, the Washington pledge list carries a heavy local flavor. Nine of the 10 commits hail from Washington, California or Oregon.
Portland Lakeridge three-star running back Ansu Sanoe has been in the fold since last April and is now the No. 33 RB in the cycle and the No. 2 player in Oregon. Last month brought a trio of commitments from Inglewood, Calif. native and IMG Academy (Fla.) three-star safety Ksani Jiles, Greene’s Mater Dei teammate and three-star safety CJ Lavender, as well as Tacoma (Wash.) Mount Tahoma three-star cornerback Elijah Durr.
Seattle Evergreen three-star wide receiver Terrance Saryon, Seattle Roosevelt three-star interior offensive lineman Ah Deong Yang and Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco three-star kicker CJ Wallace round out the class.
