WR Cameron Sparks commits to Virginia Tech over Arkansas and Mississippi State

Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School wide receiver Cameron Sparks has committed to Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder almost committed to Mississippi State early in the season, but after taking more time and evaluating his options, he went with the Hokies.

“Virginia Tech came on harder toward the end of the season,” Sparks told On3. “They really recruited me hard and sent their big guns to recruit me. It started early with Virginia Tech. They recruited me as a freshman, then others came in the mix, but Virginia Tech is who recruited me the hardest at the end. I felt wanted and I picked them.”

Over 20 schools offered Sparks, the No. 19 prospect in Tennessee. Brent Pry was involved in his recruitment down the stretch. Fontel Mines was the lead recruiter. The people in Blacksburg made a big impact on this decision.

“The staff makes me feel comfortable. They are great guys. It was easy to talk with them, we built a good connection and my feelings around them helped me feel good about this commitment.”

Playing time was appealing too. Sparks is excited to get up north, start his career as a Hokie this month and play for coach Pry.

“He is a great guy,” Sparks said. “Coach Pry is just a normal guy. He knows football, he has a great background and he is a winner, but he is also a family guy. He connected with me and my family and I believe in him.”
