WR O’Mari Johnson commits to North Carolina for the second time

Jackson (Miss.) Jackson Academy three-star wide receiver O’Mari Johnson received an offer from North Carolina on March 3 and took an official visit to Chapel Hill on the weekend of April 5. He then chose to play for head coach Bill Belichick and his staff on April 6.
Yet Johnson backed off his pledge to the Tar Heels on May 30. Tulane made a strong push for the 6-foot-0, 170-pound wideout, but North Carolina never went away in his recruitment. The Tar Heels’ efforts paid off, as Johnson has now committed to North Carolina for the second time.
“To have the opportunity to play football for one of the greatest coaches of all time is an honor,” Johnson told Rivals. “Coach Belichick knows football, how to develop players and what it takes to perform at the next level.”
Johnson has visited North Carolina twice.
“North Carolina checks all the boxes for me. It is a place where I’ll be embraced and molded as an athlete and a student,” Johnson said. “After having the opportunity to discuss my goals as a player and as a student, I believe that I can excel there in both areas. I enjoyed talking with various staff members. I love hearing how they are working to build the program up. I’m definitely excited.”

Johnson is done with recruiting
Defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Steve Belichick, inside linebackers coach Jamie Collins and cornerbacks coach Armond Hawkins had strong relationships with Johnson. Following his commitment to the Tar Heels, the three-star said that “this is definitely it” regarding his recruitment. He is now looking forward to graduating high school and eventually enrolling in Chapel Hill.
“After visiting several schools and seeing what each one had to offer, I felt like North Carolina gave me a sense of security,” Johnson said. “I felt like it was right for me… Each time I have been on the campus, I have loved the school and the atmosphere that it offers more and more.”
“… I feel like I’ve made the best decision for my future by committing to North Carolina,” he added.
