Smyth is a two-way player, but we like him predominantly as an interior defensive lineman at the next level. He does play some tight end in heavy packages and is a physical run-blocker, but in terms of his long-term potential, we like him as a three-tech or even a traditional 4-3 defensive tackle. Smyth transferred in to Angleton in the off-season and has made a seamless transition in what was already a strong defensive front. Film Review Notes
Smyth plays with a relentless motor. He's a true inside plugger who does a nice job tying up blockers and holding his gap. He shows some quickness getting into the backfield and pursuing the football. He plays a power game and shows heavy hands and good lateral mobility. Plays low with good pad level and works really hard to shed blocks and fight through double teams.
