A&M drive #1 (start at their 25 after kickoff touchback)

First and 10: Reed completes to KC Concepcion on the first play from scrimmage. Picks up 15.

Play two is a hold against Ar’Maj Reed-Adams. A&M still hasn’t gotten one in their favor.

A&M sets up a nice screen but Le’Veon Moss falls down and loses two more.

Rueben Owens picks up one on a dumpoff. 3rd and 21 for A&M.

Reed tries to find Bethel-Roman on a crossing route, but he’s knocked down and no call is made. A&M will have to punt.

The punt is not Tyler White’s best, just 36 yards. UTSA takes over at the own 35.

Drive recap: They’re trying to get Reed comfortable early, I guess. But I didn’t like the fact that he was running around when he didn’t really need to. If Moss hadn’t fallen down, he may have gotten not just the first down, but a whole lot more. Reed needs to make a better throw there. Seemed like there were some early first game jitters.

UTSA drive #1

First and 10: Quick screen works well for a gain of 6. York with the tackle.

2nd and 4: Pressure messes up a slow developing screen. Incomplete.

3rd and 4: McCown is pressured again, throws behind tight end Hudson Thomas. Incomplete, UTSA punts.

Punt into the end zone for a touchback. And another commercial.

A&M drive #2 at the 20

1st and 10: two tights and a handoff to Owens. No gain. No push.

2nd and 10: Reed avoids serious pressure to gain 8.

3rd and 2: Reed rolls out and goes out of bounds and inexplicably goes out short of the first. White booms this one, and UTSA gets it at the 19.

Drive analysis: You have to get that first down. That’s terrible situational awareness on Reed’s part. It’s also concerning that they got no push on the right side on the Owens run.

UTSA drive #2 at their 19

1st and 10: McCown completes to Amador for 8.

2nd and 2: Robert Henry Jr. gets 7 and a first down.

1st and 10: Henry is bottled up on a run blitz and Dayon Hayes gets him down after he initially escapes for a gain of 2.

2nd and 8: McCown rolls out and misses Henry badly.

3rd and 8: Aggies with a more exotic blitz package and UTSA loses 1. Punt time.

UTSA makes a mistake, punts a low liner to KC Concepcion and he goes right up the middle, breaks it to the right and is gone. TOUCHDOWN TEXAS A&M. 80-yard punt return. Aggies 7, UTSA 0, 7:20 1st.

UTSA drive #3 (starts at their 25)

1st and 10: Henry runs off right tackle and gets 3. Rylan Kennedy with the tackle.

2nd and 7: McCown goes deep down the right side to McEwin, and Will Lee grabbed his jersey while the ball was in the air. They wave the PI penalty off as it was uncatchable.

3rd and 7: DJ Hicks is in on this drive. McCown finds Houston Thomas over the middle for 16. That ball had to be perfect and it was.

1st and 10 at the 44: McCown fumbles the snap and falls on it.

2nd and 10: Dealyn Evans makes his first appearance. McCown completes a long horizontal pass to Henry for no gain.

3rd and 10: UTSA runs a draw and Henry gets loose for a gain of 21. First down.

1st and 10 at the A&M 35: Quick crosser for 7.

2nd and 3: Another very fast pass to McEwin gets 6.

1st and 10 at the A&M 22: McCown has Overmeyer wide open over the middle at the A&M 5 but throws behind him. Incomplete.

2nd and 10: Henry gets maybe one. Ratcliffe gets him..

3rd and 9: Timeout UTSA before the snap.

UTSA tries the Henry run up the middle again and this time it gets nothing. Onyedim and Regis with the stop.

UTSA kicks a 36-yard field goal. Texas A&M 7, UTSA 3, 1:53 first.

Drive analysis: McCown made a couple of really nice throws on that drive, but it should have ended before they were close to field goal range. A&M vacated the left side of the line on the first 3rd and 9 and Henry ran right through it. That can’t be happening.

A&M drive #3 (starts at their 37)

Terry Bussey with an excellent return down the slideline and nearly broke it for a score.

1st and 10: Owens carries for 2 yards.

2nd and 8: Reed with an absolute dart to Nate Boerkircher for 13. Perfect throw.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 48: Reed overthrows a WIDE OPEN Concepcion on a deep ball. Nobody was within 30 yards of him.

2nd and 10: Amari Daniels carries off left guard for 4.

END OF THE FIRST QUARTER: Texas A&M 7, UTSA 3

3rd and 7: Daniels gets loose for a first down but it’s called back on a holding call on Nabou. What a waste.

3rd and 17: Reed finds Concepcion over the deep middle for 26. Hit him right in the hands. Great throw.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 29: Quick out to Bussey for 5.

2nd and 5: Reed finds Mario Craver for his first touch on a quick out and he goes the distance for a 24-yard score. TOUCHDOWN TEXAS A&M.

UTSA is nailed for a personal foul after the score. 14-3 TEXAS A&M, 13:13 2nd

Drive analysis: Reed missed Concepcion on an easy touchdown where there was nobody within the zip code, but shook it off to throw a perfect pass to Concepcion on 3rd and 17 to keep the drive alive. UTSA’s secondary is pretty bad (still) and A&M seems intent on exploiting it. Even though it was brought back, it was nice to see a solid run, as well.

UTSA drive #4 (starts at their 25)

1st and 10: McCown finds Thomas over the middle for 6.

2nd and 4: Bad tackling allows allows Will Henderson to get 9.

1st and 10: McCown throws a pass horizontally to McEwin and it loses 3. Bravion Rogers with his first tackle of the season.

2nd and 13: Bad tackling again and Henderson pushes his way to a first down on a very quick pass.

1st and 10 at midfield: Ratcliffe knocks a pass loose for an incompletion.

2nd and 10: Henderson runs up the middle for 4.

3rd and 6: McCown with a really quick pass for 18.

1st and 10 at the A&M 29: Another pass over the middle complete for 14.

1st and 10 at the A&M 15: Henry bounces it outside and scores. Texas A&M 14, UTSA 10.

Drive analysis: That was really pathetic. Everything they had trouble with last year was there again. Bad tackling, not setting the edge, giving up the middle of the field in the passing game. It looked like the second half of the bowl game.

Texas A&M drive #4 (starts at their own 33)

Another nice return by Bussey to start the possession.

1st and 10: Le’Veon Moss is back in. He goes off left tackle for 12.

1st and 10 at the A&M 45: Reed with a quick pass to Boerkircher, gaining 4.

2nd and 6: Owens picks up 2. A&M had Niblack, Boerkircher and Ohstrom in on that play and still got limited push.

3rd and 4: Reed finds Bethel-Roman sitting down in the zone and hits him for a catch and run of 20.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 29: Broken play loses 2 yards.

2nd and 12: TImeout UTSA, their second.

Reed finds Concepcion on a drag route, and he outruns everyone for a touchdown. TEXAS A&M 21, UTSA 10, 5:38 2nd

Drive analysis: Concepcion is awesome. He took a simple play and made it a score. He and Craver are on another level from what we’re used to. And Reed is playing really well so far (10-12, 137 yards, 2 TD)

UTSA drive #5 (starts at their 25)

1st and 10: Henderson tackled by a blitzing Scooby Williams for a loss of 3.

2nd and 13: Henderson drops a screen that wouldn’t have worked anyway.

3rd and 13: Henry does it AGAIN, gets 14 on a draw against a heavy blitz.

1st and 10 at the 35: Henry carries and gets 5.

2nd and 5: False start on everyone except the center.

2nd and 10: Henry gets loose off the edge again and goes for 22.

1st and 10 at the A&M 43: UTSA tries a gadget play but A&M sniffs it out and it becomes a loss of 1.

2nd and 11: Another missed tackle leads to a first down on a quick pass.

1st and 10 at the A&M 30: Henry carries for 4.

2nd and 6: McCown throws behind McEwin and it’s incomplete.

3rd and 6: McCown throws a very questionable pass and it’s nearly picked off by Ratcliffe on the 1. Incomplete.

4th and 6: Field goal attempt is no good from 43 yards out.

A&M drive #5 (starts at their own 26)

1st and 10: Reed is pressured, scrambles and the pass is incomplete.

2nd and 10: Reed finds Craver on a quick out and he goes for 14.

1st and 10 at the 39: Reed tries a deep ball to Bethel-Roman, but someone either threw it wrong or ran the wrong route.

2nd and 10: Reed scrambles for 5 after heavy pressure.

3rd and 5: Reed finds Craver on a crosser for 10 and a first down.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 47 (21 seconds left): Reed overthrows Ohrstrom in the middle of the field.

2nd and 10: Reed throws under pressure towards Bethel-Roman, but it’s incomplete.

3rd and 10: Reed throws it maybe near Bussey. Incomplete.

4th and 10: Tyler White drops a 42-yarder at the UTSA 5 and that ends the half.

UTSA drive #7 (starting at their own 25)

1st and 10: Henry goes 75 yards for a touchdown. TEXAS A&M 21, UTSA 17.

Pitiful. Just pitiful.

A&M drive #6 (starts at their own 25)

1st and 10: Moss carries off right tackle for 2.

2nd and 8: Reed’s pass goes through the hands of Ashton Bethel-Roman. Incomplete.

3rd and 8: Reed throws a quick out that was deflected. It was really close to being picked.

3 and out for A&M and momentum is now firmly with UTSA.

White punts it 51 yards to the UTSA 22.

UTSA drive #8

1st and 10: Henderson gets 3.

2nd and 7: McCown boots to his left, nobody open and he throws it incomplete. But there’s a holding call on Tyreek Chappell and it’s an automatic first down.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 35: Henderson carries for maybe 1. Regis stuffs it up in the middle.

2nd and 9: Henderson carries up the middle again and gets 2. Regis with another stop.

3rd and 7: McCown goes deep down the right side and it’s out of bounds.

4th and 7: Concepcion fair catches a 47-yard punt at his own 15.

A&M drive #7

1st and 10: A very long horizontal pass to Craver, but the first tackle is missed and he picks up 23.

1st and 10 at the A&M 38: Quick pass to Theo Ohrstrom for 7.

2nd and 3: Owens carries for 4 and a first down.

1st and 10 at the A&M 48: Reed goes deep for Concepcion, who is mugged, but no call.

2nd and 10: Rueben Owens finally gets loose on a draw and goes for 30.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 22: Very nice design has Reed looking like he’s running option, then he pulls up and throws it back across his body to Ohrstrom. 15 yards.

1st and goal at the 7: Reed finds Concepcion for an easy TD, but he stepped out of bounds.

2nd and goal: Daniels carries and loses 1.

3rd and goal: Reed keeps it and gets down to the 1.

4th and goal: After a timeout, A&M runs a double fake handoff playaction rollout for Reed to toss to a wide open Theo Ohstrom. TOUCHDOWN, TEXAS A&M. TEXAS A&M 28, UTSA 17, 7:10 3rd.

UTSA drive #8 (starts at their own 25)

1st and 10: Henry carries and A&M stops him for once. Gain of 1.

2nd and 9: Touch pass from McCown to Overmeyer gets nothing.

3rd and 9: Willie McCoy lets a pass go right through his hands on a very quick out. 3 and out.

4th and 9: Punt, Concepcion returns it 14 yards to the A&M 33.

A&M drive #8

1st and 10: Reed has all day to throw and finds Craver in the deep middle for 24 yards. Reed is throwing darts.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 43: Moss carries behind left guard and goes for 5.

2nd and 5: Reed finds a huge hole open up in front of him and he takes off for 17. A&M is starting to wear UTSA down.

1st and 10 at the UTSA 21: Delay of game. Reed clearly wasn’t getting the play in time.

1st and 15: Reed could have thrown, but keeps and gains 4. The conservative (probably smart) move.

2nd and 11: Mario Craver goes over 100 yards receiving on another quick out that he makes into a big play. TOUCHDOWN TEXAS A&M. Texas A&M 35, UTSA 17, 2:48 2nd.

UTSA drive #9 (starts at their own 25)

1st and 10: McCown throws a quick out low and away. He looks a little flustered.

2nd and 10: Aggies run-blitz and Scooby Williams stuff Henry for no gain.

3rd and 10: Dezz Ricks bats down a pass intended for McCuin. 3 and out.

4th and 10: 54 yard punt returned 13 yards by Bussey.

Texas A&M drive #9 (starts at their 34)

1st and 10: Reed throws a quick pass to Bussey that is batted down.

2nd and 10: Reed wants to go deep, scrambles and gets back to the line of scrimmage.

3rd and 10: With Trey Zuhn at center and Robbie Bourdon at left tackle, Jamarion Morrow catches a pass for 8.

4th and 2: White’s punt goes 45 yards and dies at the 18 of UTSA. And that’s the last play of the 3rd quarter.

UTSA drive #10 (starts at their 18)

1st and 10: Holding wipes out a big play. McCown completes a 5-yard pass to McCuin after the penalty.

2nd and 14: York stuffs the run for a 2 yard loss.

3rd and 16: McCuin avoids about five tackles before coming up 3 yards short. UTSA will punt.

4th and 3: False start on UTSA

4th and 8: Punt of 47 yards. Bussey fair catch at the A&M 33.

1st and 10: Daniels carries for 7.

2nd and 3: Quick pass to Craver for 8, but Bussey is called for holding.
