The X Factors: RB Rueben Owens

In this series, we’re looking at 10 players who could have a major impact on the success or failure of the 2025 Texas A&M football team. Some are starters, some aren’t — but they’re certainly not getting the attention they deserve.
The series continues with running back Rueben Owens, who is coming off a serious leg injury that cost him most of the 2024 season.
Class: Redshirt sophomore
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 215 pounds
2024 stats: 16 carries, 61 yards in two games
Why he’s important: You saw why after the South Carolina game. A&M was essentially down to one back they could rely on in Amari Daniels, and he was hurt too. Owens is now overshadowed by All-SEC starter Le’Veon Moss, but his role is vital. He’s likely the primary backup to a player coming off a knee injury of his own — a player the Aggie coaching staff would like not to overwork. Enter Owens, who has looked really good this offseason and could potentially provide relatively little dropoff to Moss when he comes in the game. Owens looks like he’s stronger and more decisive than he was in his freshman season, and he still catches the ball very well. If he’s healthy, he’s going to be a critical piece of the offensive puzzle.
