Scooby may not miss much time
Texas A&M linebacker Scooby Williams, who was injured making an interception in A&M’s 41-40 win over Notre Dame, may not miss as much time as initially feared. During his Wednesday SEC teleconference, coach Mike Elko said Williams was getting additional testing done on what was deemed a “lower leg injury” after the game.
Multiple reports Friday, however, painted a rosier picture than previous speculation. Williams appears to have an ankle sprain and is not expected to miss an extended period of time.
Elko has his Monday press conference with the local media at 1:30 p.m., and Williams’ availability will surely be one of the topics of conversation.
Aggies move up to 9th in AP, coaches poll
Texas A&M had the week off after their thrilling win at Notre Dame, but they still moved a little bit in Sunday’s rankings. The Aggies moved up one spot to ninth in both polls — in the case of the AP poll, they moved ahead of Texas, who is now ranked 10th. The forward movement came at the expense of Illinois, who was ranked ninth before being obliterated 63-10 by Indiana Saturday night.
Auburn, who plays A&M this upcoming weekend at Kyle Field, dropped out of the Top 25 after a controversial 24-17 loss to Oklahoma.
Volleyball sweeps Aggie Invitational to finish non-conference play
The 14th-ranked Texas A&M volleyball team made quick work of all three of its opponents over the weekend, not even dropping a set as they rolled past Southeastern Louisiana, New Hampshire and Loyola Marymount at Reed Arena.
Coming off losses to No. 10 SMU and No. 15 TCU, the Aggies (8-2) dispensed with Southeastern Louisiana briskly on Thursday, winning 25-16, 25-15 and 25-18. Logan Lednicky led the Aggies with 11 kills, while Emily Hellmuth added nine. Maddie Waak had 38 assists in the win.
UNH was the next victim, falling 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18. The Aggies had 51 kills, led by Hellmuth’s 13, while Waak added another 37 assists.
LMU was the final opponent to be swept, losing 25-15, 25-16 and 25-22. Hellmuth led the team with another 32 kills, while Waak posted 32 more assists, giving her 107 for the three-day tournament.
The Aggies open conference play Wednesday against Missouri.
