Louisiana Tech returns to Joe Aillet Stadium on Tuesday night for a pivotal Conference USA showdown against Western Kentucky.
Both teams are looking to bounce back after non-competitive defeats, aiming to stay in contention near the top of the conference standings.
So, how do these two programs compare on paper? Let’s dive into the numbers.

On paper, the formula for beating Western Kentucky appears straightforward: establish the run and control the clock.
That’s exactly what Louisiana Tech did in last year’s 12–7 win in Bowling Green, racking up 209 rushing yards and dominating possession for nearly 40 minutes.
This season, Western Kentucky continues to struggle against the run. However, the Hilltoppers still show flashes of a solid defensive unit. Opponents are converting just 34% of third downs and scoring touchdowns on only 41% of red zone trips. For context, Tech’s defense is allowing touchdowns on just 36% of red zone opportunities—so both teams have proven capable of tightening up when it matters most.
On the other side of the ball, quarterback Maverick McIvor remains one of Conference USA’s top passers despite a three-interception outing last week. He’ll face a Tech secondary that’s shown vulnerability at times this season. Pressuring McIvor and capitalizing on any mistakes could be crucial to securing a win Tuesday night.
