Sun Belt CEOs voted in unanimous fashion to invite Louisiana Tech into the league on Monday.

Sun Belt Conference Makeup

The addition of Louisiana Tech will bring the number of Sun Belt members to 14 with the Bulldogs joining current members App State, Marshall, Old Dominion, James Madison, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana-Lafayette, ULM, South Alabama, Southern Miss, and Troy.

Regional Rivalries

  • From a fit standpoint, Louisiana Tech will renew rivalries with ULM, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Southern Miss on a yearly basis across all sports. We won’t mention that the Bulldogs have defeated the Warhawks and Cajuns in each of the last eight contests on the gridiron.
  • Within the West Division of the Sun Belt, Louisiana Tech’s longest road trip will be to Troy (431.1 miles).

Bulldogs history with Sun Belt

  • Louisiana Tech was previously a partial member of the Sun Belt Conference from 1991-2001.

LA Tech Recent History

  • From a football perspective, the Bulldogs have appeared in a bowl game in eight of the last 11 seasons.
  • From a basketball perspective, the Dunkin’ Dogs have won at least 20 games in 11 of the last 13 seasons.
  • From a baseball perspective, the Diamond Dogs have earned an NCAA Regional berth in three of the last five seasons.

Tech Admin Shoutout

Dr. Jim Henderson and Ryan Ivey arrived on Louisiana Tech’s campus approximately 18 months ago with a vision for athletics.

That vision included positioning the sports programs for a move to the Sun Belt Conference at some point in the future.

The duo succeeded in their mission, and Tech Athletics are better off for it.
