Monday Morning Hype: Louisiana Tech vs Washington State

Louisiana Tech (5-4) hits the road once again Saturday night for a non-conference showdown against Washington State (4-5).
Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. CT, with live coverage on the CW Network and KXKZ 107.5 FM.
Matchup at a Glance
Louisiana Tech dropped its third road game in four tries, falling 25-24 to Delaware on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs appeared to be in control late, holding a 24-16 lead with 2:23 remaining in the fourth quarter after a Jacob Fields pick-six. But they couldn’t close it out, as the Blue Hens rallied to steal the win in the final seconds.
On the offensive side, Clay Thevenin continued his standout season, totaling 106 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 touches. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native now leads the Bulldogs with 654 total yards and eight touchdowns this year.
Washington State is guided by first-year head coach Jimmy Rogers, who has led the Cougars to a 4-5 record in his debut season in Pullman.
The Cougars were idle this past weekend but have dropped three of their last four contests, with those losses coming against No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 18 Virginia, and Oregon State.
Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus directs the Washington State offense, throwing for 1,246 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions so far this season.
Aside from two rough outings against North Texas and Washington — games in which they surrendered 59 points apiece — the Cougars’ defense has been strong, holding every other opponent to 24 points or fewer.
Week Ten X-Factors: Two Questions that Matter
Who lines up under center for the Bulldogs this week?
Blake Baker exited early in the Delaware game with a left leg injury and did not return. In his absence, Trey Kukuk and Evan Bullock split snaps, and if Baker remains sidelined, Tech will likely roll with a two-quarterback system featuring both.
It’ll be intriguing to see how offensive coordinator Tony Franklin manages a dual-quarterback approach, especially with Kukuk and Bullock offering such distinctly different skill sets. If that’s the direction Tech is forced to take, it will certainly add a new wrinkle to the Bulldogs’ offensive game plan.
Will the long haul to Washington take a toll on the Bulldogs this weekend?
Tech traveled 1,221 miles to Newark, Delaware on Friday — and then another 1,221 miles back to Ruston the very next day. Now, just a week later, the Bulldogs face an even longer journey: 2,193 miles to Pullman, Washington.
No matter how young or resilient college athletes are, back-to-back cross-country trips take a serious toll. The challenge is even greater coming off a heartbreaking loss at Delaware this past weekend. Head coach Sonny Cumbie will need to deliver one of his most motivating pregame messages to keep the Bulldogs focused and energized for Saturday night.
