COSTA MESA, Calif. — UCLA wide receiver Kwazi Gilmer has big goals entering his sophomore season.

Although he was left off the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, Gilmer has visions of contending for the honor given annually to the nation’s top pass-catcher.

“I want to go win the Biletnikoff,” Gilmer said after Wednesday afternoon’s practice, the 11th of training camp. “So I’m coming for all the receivers out there.”

To do so, the connection between Gilmer and Tennessee transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who is on three different preseason watch lists himself, will be important.

The role as the projected top target is different from last year’s as part of a receiving corps that included J.Michael Sturdivant and Logan Loya. Sturdivant is now at Florida and Loya transferred to Minnesota.

“Well, Nico first came out here, me and receivers, we always like, ‘Come on, let’s go get some routes in,’” Gilmer said. “And just because it’s a different quarterback, so we trying to get to the league and all that. So we trying to go win a Natty, so let’s get as much work as we can. But he was all on top of that. Got a lot of work in. I could see how it’s working out.”

Gilmer spoke Wednesday about his own personal goals plus the differences in this year’s offense. You can watch the entire media session in the video below:
