Tim Skipper is leading a turnaround in Westwood. The interim UCLA head coach is now 2-1 since taking over including wins over Penn State and Michigan State. The latest victory came on the road Saturday with the Bruins turning in another impressive offensive performance.

Suddenly, Skipper has UCLA building momentum heading into the second half of its schedule. The Bruins will return home to the Rose Bowl this weekend to face Maryland on Saturday.

That game will provide UCLA with another opportunity to stack another victory. The attention from outside for now, however, remains on the 38-13 dismantling of the Spartans.

UCLA has started to feel like a different team in recent weeks, and its head coach continues to praise the work being done by the group.

“I think the way we practice, the way we attack practice, helps us out,” Skipper said Monday. “We have identified a style of play that we want to be, and it’s our job now to keep the standard the standard. Play with that fanatical effort, play with fundamentals, being smart, you know, all those things we just have to continue to do.

“But it’s not like something that’s just going to show up on Saturday. You have to practice about it. You have to work about it and not just talk about it. So I think the guys are working really hard, and it’s starting to pay off for them.”
