UCLA announces search committee to hire next football coach

Eleven days after firing DeShaun Foster, the search committee to hire UCLA’s next football head coach was announced Thursday.
Athletic director Martin Jarmond and executive senior associate AD Erin Adkins will be assisted by Casey Wasserman, Bob Myers, Eric Kendricks and Adam Peters.
“No additional comment will be made on the search or candidates until a hire is announced,” the release said.
Kendricks, Myers, Peters and Wasserman are all UCLA graduates.
Wasserman, the founder and CEO of the Wasserman agency that represents several big names in sports and entertainment, was among the key figures who were part of the search that brought former head coach Chip Kelly to UCLA in 2017. His name also adorns the Bruins’ football facility.
Myers, who is on the University of California Board of Regents, is a two-time NBA executive of the year and helped the Golden State Warriors win four NBA championships during his tenure from 2012 to 2023. He was part of the last UCLA men’s basketball team to win a national championship in 1995.
Kendricks spent 10 years in the NFL after graduating in 2014. As a senior, he won the Butkus Award given annually to the nation’s top linebacker.
Peters is currently the general manager of the NFL’s Washington Commanders. He previously spent one year as a football operations assistant at UCLA after his collegiate career ended in 2001.
“I want to thank the members of the search committee who have, out of their love for UCLA, agreed to contribute their time and expertise to this process,” Jarmond, who will lead the national search, said in the release. “We will identify, recruit and invest in a leader who has the vision, the confidence, the attitude, and the proven ability to return UCLA football to national prominence, and we will provide the resources to compete and win at the highest level. That’s our commitment to our alumni, fans and supporters.”
Last Wednesday, On3 identified Wasserman and Peters as key figures who would be part of the search process.
Noticeably absent from the list is Troy Aikman, the former UCLA quarterback and current “Monday Night Football” broadcaster who was vocal in 2022 about the sagging attendance at the Rose Bowl.
The Bruins fired Foster after an 0-3 start to his second season. UCLA, under interim head coach Tim Skipper, returns to action Saturday in the Big Ten opener at Northwestern.
