UCLA gains 2027 commitment from WR Trysten Shaw

UCLA picked up its third commitment in the 2027 class Wednesday evening when receiver Trysten Shaw announced his pledge to the Bruins.
The Mesquite (Texas) standout is the second receiver in the Bruins’ class, joining Demaje Riley. UCLA also has a commitment from defensive back Royalton Allen in the class.
”It’s where I want to be,” Shaw told Bruin Blitz about the decision the following morning.
UCLA’s pursuit of Shaw
Earlier this month, Shaw told Bruin Blitz that his interest from the Bruins stood out because of head coach DeShaun Foster’s direct involvement.
“Makes it even more special when the head coach likes your game,” Shaw said.
Shaw added Thursday morning that Foster was in constant communication.
”Coach Foster (would) always call and check up on me,” Shaw said. “Letting me know he wanted me was big.”
A May 19 unofficial visit to Westwood was a key moment is Shaw’s relationship with the Bruins. He then returned to UCLA for its prospect camp in mid-June.
Receivers coach Burl Toler III told Shaw that his route-running ability, speed and hands were all strengths that piqued the staff’s interest.
Shaw said Toler “fire and passion on his face” stayed with him in the decision-making process.
”When he says he wants to work with me, help me put my total package together on the college level,” Shaw said.
