COSTA MESA, Calif. DeShaun Foster has had a clear theme for training camp this year. Work has been front and center for UCLA through the first two weeks of practice. Foster spoke ahead of Saturday’s practice with the Bruins now a little over halfway through their schedule in Costa Mesa.

“The guys have been going at it really hard,” he said. “Doing just a great job of blocking out all the noise. And, really just coming out here and getting work. That’s really what we wanted to do. I just wanted to find ways to have the team come together.

“And, I think each day it’s grown. They’re doing a good job of grinding, even though training camp they might’ve wanted to stay with some of their position teammates. But, I made offense and defense stay together. So, I like that in terms of coming together.”

The Bruins changed up their schedule this week to practice later in the day. Foster said it could stay the same or change back to mornings based on the temperatures down in Orange County next week.

For now the focus remains on improving as a team and building a connection between his group. A lot of attention will be on the offense this season behind quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Foster has liked the development on that side so far in camp.

“Offense is doing good,” Foster said. “Defense is doing well also. You see the strides with Nico. See it in the backfield. Coach (Andy) Kwon is doing a great job with the O-line. They’re jelling. And, even though there might be different rotations or different guys in there at times, they all have a common goal and they’re working hard.”

Foster provided an update on a variety of topics Saturday, and you can watch the full media session below:
