The long-awaited start to the Nico Iamaleava era at UCLA is now just three days away.

The Tennessee transfer quarterback addressed the media Wednesday for the first time since last month’s Big Ten Media Days.

The Long Beach native said after practice that he’s looking forward to playing against Utah in the Rose Bowl for the first time as a Bruin.

“Excited, man. Tired of playing against our own guys, so I can’t wait to get out there and play another team,” Iamaleava said. “Got a lot of family — a lot of family coming. Probably, like, 20, 30 [people], so it’s gonna be a fun game.”

Iamaleava said he’s aware that the Utes have typically produced strong defenses and “can’t wait for the challenge.”

“Yeah, they fly around, man. They fly around, very, you know, disciplined defense,” Iamaleava said. “These past couple years, I’ve always heard about Utah being a great defense.”

Watch the press conference below for the rest of his thoughts after Wednesday’s practice, including his comfort level in offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri’s system, the extra work after practice put in with the receivers and tight ends, and more.
