WATCH: UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper looks ahead to Northwestern

UCLA’s first game under interim head coach Tim Skipper is just three days away.
After Wednesday’s practice, Skipper told reporters that the players’ mindset “is in a very good place” more than a week after the program moved on from ex-head coach DeShaun Foster and defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe.
“We’ve had some competitive Tuesday and Wednesday practices, and I like where we’re at,” Skipper said. “The guys are working. It’s getting physical out there and just building up to gameday.”
The Bruins will open Big Ten play at Northwestern. The Wildcats’ defensive line is among the position groups that stand out to Skipper.
“They’re going to play shell defense,” Skipper said. “They’re going to make you beat yourself. I mean, they keep everything in front of you, sound tackling. I mean, they’re a good sound ball squad on defense.
“Their edge guys, their ends, very good, very good. We cannot let them wreck the game. We have to handle those guys. The interior guys get a lot of push and things like that.”
