A new chapter for BuffStampede.com

Adam Munsterteiger, longtime BuffStampede.com publisher, passed away in May 2026 and the future of the popular site became a deeply personal responsibility as well as an important decision for me as his wife, creative partner, and someone who worked for years with Adam in Colorado sports media.

Adam built BuffStampede.com over 23 years of covering Colorado football. Throughout his career, he served as the primary CU publisher with Rivals/Yahoo!, 247Sports/CBS Sports, and, beginning in March 2026, On3/Rivals.

After Adam passed away, there were many thoughtful conversations, and the decision was made for BuffStampede.com to step away from the On3 network and begin a new chapter as an independent news outlet under my leadership.

This was a mutual decision, one made with mutual respect. There was no fallout, no friction, and no pressure. It was simply an acknowledgment that BuffStampede.com and On3 would both be best served by having the freedom to shape their own futures.

Although his partnership with On3 was relatively new, Adam spent nearly his entire professional life building BuffStampede.com into one of the most trusted sources for Colorado athletics coverage. His time with On3 allowed him to continue doing what he loved most – covering the Buffs, mentoring young journalists, and connecting with a passionate community that had grown alongside him.

The publishers and staff at On3 welcomed Adam and our family with open arms. They supported his work, believed in his vision, and showed us incredible kindness. In the months following Adam’s passing, they approached every conversation about the future of BuffStampede.com with compassion, professionalism, and respect.

I will always be grateful for the grace and understanding they extended to our family during the most difficult season of our lives.

My background includes more than two decades in the news industry, digital media, design, and photography. While no one could ever replace Adam or the singular voice he brought to BuffStampede.com, I am honored to help guide the site forward and preserve the community, values, and legacy he spent 23 years building.

As I worked through what should come next, I had many honest and thoughtful conversations with the On3 team. Together, we determined the best path was for BuffStampede.com to continue independently while allowing On3 to keep developing its own Colorado coverage.

On3 became an important chapter in Adam’s story, but it was not the beginning of BuffStampede.com, and it will not be the end.

Taking BuffStampede.com independent gives me the opportunity to build on the foundation Adam created while exploring new ideas that reflect who he was and what he valued.

Adam believed in trying new things. He believed in mentoring the next generation of journalists. He believed that great coverage came from being fair, honest, curious, and committed to earning the trust of both fans and the people you cover.

Those values will not change.

BuffStampede.com will continue to provide thoughtful, impartial coverage of Colorado athletics while embracing new ways to tell stories through writing, photography, video, historical features, and the work of talented young creators who are helping to build Adam’s legacy.

You will continue to see familiar bylines and familiar faces in familiar places. The Colorado media community is a small one, built far more on collaboration than competition. The people within it support one another more than many people realize, and I am grateful that BuffStampede.com will continue standing alongside the journalists and outlets working every day to cover CU athletics.

In addition, I am exploring opportunities to create a scholarship, fellowship, or foundation that could support students who are passionate about entering the world of sports media.

This is not about replacing Adam. No one can.

It is about honoring what he built by allowing it to continue to grow in a way that reflects the curiosity, generosity, integrity, and innovation that defined his career.

I am grateful this transition means I don’t have to say goodbye to the relationships we built with On3. I will continue photographing Colorado athletics this season, and some of that work will still appear through On3. I am thankful we found a way to continue working together even as BuffStampede.com begins its independent chapter.

Thank you for believing in Adam. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for the grace and compassion you have shown my family. We will always be grateful for the time we spent together.

And to the BuffStampede.com community – thank you for continuing to walk this road with us.

BuffStampede.com has never simply been a website. It is a community, and I am deeply grateful you have continued to show up – for us and for one another.

Soon, BuffStampede.com will be back online, once again offering a home for meaningful University of Colorado sports coverage and many of the features you have come to expect, including a message board, recruiting news, and game-day coverage.

We are excited to expand what BuffStampede.com can become. That includes long-form storytelling, historical features about the program and its Forever Buffs, photo and video highlights, and ideas we have not even dreamed up yet.

As we move forward, I hope you will continue supporting all of the journalists and outlets covering Colorado athletics. We are proud to stand alongside them while continuing Adam’s legacy in a way that honors both his work and the community he built.
