South Florida head football coach Alex Golesh spoke to the media on Monday after the final scrimmage of Fall Camp. As the Bulls get ready to begin preparations for Boise State later this week, Golesh has set in motion his plans to have his team prepared for an odd start to the season.

Given the team is opening the season on Thursday night with a 5:30 pm ET kickoff, Golesh moved around the schedule to try to simulate the timing leading up to a normal game week.

“We are about two weeks out later this week, and we will get into a mock game week on Thursday and then a game week when we get closer,” Golesh said. “Their days will all be jacked up, it will be a Sunday on a Friday and then a Monday on a Saturday, so it will feel a little bit like my days of MACtion, just not in October.”

Golesh said they will have a mock game on the 21st without live tackling with game situations, and that will lead them into a game week after that for preparing for the Broncos.

Simulating Game Day

Golesh set up a normal game atmosphere for the final scrimmage of camp.

“We kicked off and treated it like a game day with the officiating,” Golesh said. “There is a ton to clean up, especially for the coaches. It is a learning day for the coaches about what it takes to play a game. We finished the day with a four-minute drill and then a two-minute drill.”

“Our older guys have really stepped up to provide leadership for these younger guys who are super talented and still finding their way,” Golesh said.
