Isaac Brown named to 2025 Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List

University of Louisville sophomore running back Isaac Brown has been named to the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List.
It’s the biggest of a slew of preseason nominations for the 5-foot-9 all-purpose back. Previously this summer, Brown had been named to the Maxwell Award and Paul Hornung Award watch lists. He also picked up preseason All-American nominations from Athlon Sports, and in July was named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-American second-team, so his latest mention comes as no surprise.
Brown is one of 11 running backs to be named to the Player of the Year watchlist. The Homestead, Florida, native was among six other ACC players named and was one of three backs from the conference mentioned — Jamal Haynes (Georgia Tech) and Demond Claiborne (Wake Forest).
From the ACC: “One of the most prestigious honors in college football, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, presented by Crabtree Lexus of New Haven, is the fourth-oldest individual award in the sport. Voted on by FBS head coaches and sports information directors, it recognizes the very best player in the nation each season.”
The 2025 watch list will shrink to 10 semi-finalists in early November, just before the three finalists are named a month later. The winner will be announced on December 12 live on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.
Brown was one of the best freshmen in all of college football last season. He ran for 1,173 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging an ACC-best 7.1 yards per carry. Brown is the first true freshman to rush for over 1,000 yards and finish in the top-20 nationally in yards per carry.
He and fellow sophomore Duke Watson will lead the charge in the Cardinals’ backfield as Louisville is anticipated to have one of the best running back rooms in the country. The Louisville football season starts in less than two months on Saturday, Aug. 30, against Eastern Kentucky.
