Deion Sanders compares college football firings to mail-order brides, BBLs: ‘Everyone wants the quick fix’

Deion Sanders has seen college football’s “unfortunate” string of in-season firings over the past several weeks, most recently at LSU, which parted ways with fourth-year head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday after the Tigers were eliminated from the College Football Playoff contention. That followed a Black Sunday the weekend before when Florida fired Billy Napier and Colorado State let go of Jay Norvell.

But, as only Coach Prime can, the third-year Colorado head coach wasn’t the least bit surprised by all the recent Power Four coaching turnover, and even compared the burgeoning trend to on-demand food delivery services, mail-order brides and, of all things, Brazilian butt lift surgery.

“It’s unfortunate. There’s no (more) patience in this world. How do we exude patience when we could call up right now and get a pizza delivery right here? That you can call and get ride and it’s waiting outside for you,” Sanders said Tuesday afternoon. “Everything is expeditious in this country. Everyone wants the quick fix. You’ve got mail-order-brides, right? You can get married right away. You can get a BBL, you can come in here flat as (we) all know what and leave thick as a snicker.

Deion Sanders on in-season coach firings: ‘Ain’t nobody got no patience no more’

“This is a different country that we live in, man, ain’t nobody got no patience no more. I understand that, and I don’t either — I don’t have patience as well,” Sanders concluded. “I want things done right now because I’m used to putting in the work and you want that results from the work that you put in. But it don’t often times work like that.”

Following Kelly’s ouster, LSU becomes the eighth Power Four opening before Halloween, joining Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Stanford, UCLA, and Virginia Tech. And with smoldering hot-seat situations with Auburn‘s Hugh Freeze, Florida State‘s Mike Norvell, Kentucky‘s Mark Stoops, and Wisconsin‘s Luke Fickell, even more in-season firings could be coming down the pipe.

One name not on that list is Sanders, who appears safe despite a disappointing Year 3 in Boulder that is looking more like Colorado’s four-win campaign in 2023 than last season’s 9-4 finish. The Buffaloes (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) have lost three of the last four in Big 12 play, with the lone win coming Oct. 11 in a 24-17 upset of then-No. 22 Iowa State.
