Deion Sanders was asked about his health Tuesday and it seems like the Colorado coach is more satisfied with that than his football team at the moment. The Buffaloes are 2-3 and missed a big opportunity against BYU in which Sanders said the moment might’ve been too big for the team at that time.

But Sanders, who revealed he battled bladder cancer this year, is in good spirits. Already having to deal with amputated toes due to blood clots, Coach Prime’s positivity is evident and inspiring.

About halfway through the season now, Sanders was asked how he was physically. Other than being a little sore, he was his usual self.

“I’m good,” Sanders said Tuesday. “My foot is hurting like crazy right now. We just went on our walk and my foot is throbbing right now. So I can’t wait to get out of these shoes and go get it rubbed down and iced. So other than that, my other health issues are pretty darn good. Got a great staff of doctors and people here that look out for me pretty good.”

Sanders said coming into the season it was going to be a challenge to prepare, coach and move around with his condition. But it certainly hasn’t slowed him down yet.

“It’s been a tremendous journey. It’s been tough. I think I dropped 25 pounds,” Sanders said said in July. “It’s just dealing with the catheter, dealing with all the stuff that I had to deal with, and right now I’m still dealing with going to the bathroom, like it’s a whole life change, like I can’t and I’m gonna be transparent, I can’t pee, like I used to pee. It’s totally different … I cannot control … so I get up and go to the bathroom already four or five times a night, but then I’m sitting up there waking up, you know, like my grandson …

“We got the same problem right now, we going through the same trials and tribulations. We kind of see who has the heaviest bag at the end of the night. Like, this is ridiculous, but I’m making a joke out of it, but it’s real. Like, it is real, it is real, it is real.”

But now the focus is back on the field as Colorado looks to get back to .500 and do their best to return to the postseason. After a 24-21 loss to No. previously ranked No. 25 BYU, now No. 23, the Buffaloes have TCU on the road this weekend.

Sanders was asked if they could fix the mental part of the game, in regards to the moment being too big on Saturday. It’s not an overnight solution though.

“We can try but they have to step up,” Sanders said. “I am not going to make excuses for them. They have to step up. I don’t know what else I can say about it. They are prepared, they are studying film, same thing that we saw on the scout team, the same plays they ran tonight. It was a great scouting output for the staff. We just have to step up and make the plays that were there. We had tremendous opportunities to make the plays that were there. We just didn’t.”
