Deion Sanders promises to prove he's the right coach for Colorado

This has been a season of adversity for the Colorado Buffaloes. On the field, the team has struggled to replace last season’s stars and has seen its record slip. Off the field, head coach Deion Sanders has battled health concerns. Despite all of that, he’s still adamant that he’s the right coach for the job.
At a recent press conference, Sanders emphasized that he’s not giving up. Instead, he’s ready to fight moving forward to prove he’s the right man for Colorado.
“Please understand, if anybody is built for adversity,” Deion Sanders said. “I am. If anybody is built for change, I am. If anybody is built to overcome situations and trials and tribulations, I am. You’ve got the right man. I promise you, you do. And I’m going to prove that to you. I am. Just give me an opportunity and a little more time and I’m going to prove that to you. I will. I promise you that.”
The adversity has been very real. Now sitting at 3-7 overall and 1-6 in Big 12 play. That includes a three-game losing streak. Within that run, Colorado has had to also make changes at the quarterback position and several staff changes. Reports were that offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was demoted following the loss to Utah.
Off the field, this offseason Sanders saw his health rapidly deteriorate. He battled bladder cancer and would need to have his bladder surgically removed, which kept him away from the team for large portions of the offseason. It was a battle just to get back to coaching.
All of that has amounted to concerns from some fans that Deion Sanders could be set to move on. That was exacerbated by the news that athletic director Rick George is stepping down into a smaller role. However, when he was recently asked about Sanders and the future, he was adamant that the football coach is still all in on the Colorado program.
“Look, Coach Prime’s committed here,” Rick George said. “I think everybody looks for a reason that he’s gonna leave. Coach and I have a really good relationship. We talked about this Wednesday night. He kind of knew it was coming but he and I talked about it and my commitment to him was I want to help him get this thing back on track. It’s not like it’s off track, like a lot of people think.”
For now, the focus is on finishing the 2025 season strong and building momentum going into the offseason. That means taking care of business against Arizona State and Kansas State.
