Colorado has been rotating through quarterbacks during the first three weeks of their season. Now, going into week four, the Buffaloes are going back to where they began on the depth chart.

Per Matt Zenitz at CBS Sports, Colorado is going back to Kaidon Salter as their starting quarterback for this weekend’s game against Wyoming. That’s amidst the Buffaloes playing all of their quarterbacks in week two against Delaware before Ryan Staub was their starter in week three against Houston.

“Colorado is expected to shift back to Kaidon Salter as its starting quarterback, sources tell @CBSSports,” Zenitz tweeted this morning. “Started the first two games. Now in line to take back over as the starter after Ryan Staub started for Colorado this past weekend.”

Salter started the first two games of the season versus Georgia Tech and Delaware, but then didn’t appear at all last week against Houston. He, in essentially just over a game of play as he didn’t appear for the duration against the Blue Hens, is 30-44 (68.2%) for 261 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 67 yards and two scores.

Staub was the one who took over for Salter coming off a breakout performance against Delaware in Week 2, being 7-10 (70%) for 158 yards and two touchdowns. He earned the nod in their conference opener at Houston, but struggled against the Cougars, though, being 19-35 (54.3%) for 204 yards, a touchdowns, and two interceptions to pair with 36 rushing yards.

Julian Lewis also played, as expected, against the Blue Hens in Week 2. It was his first, and currently only to this point, collegiate appearance as the true freshman completed two of four pass attempts for eight yards.

None of the quarterbacks have, based on this rotation, seemingly cemented themselves as the starter for Colorado. That became clear with Staub getting his start, and more so with the Buffs changing plans again this week by turning back to Salters. That leaves the job open and in question three weeks into the season, with Deion Sanders just looking for “leadership and consistency” from someone at quarterback.

“Leadership and consistency. That’s it,” Sanders said. “That ain’t much to ask for is it? Leadership and consistency. I look for that for everyone. Every man, every woman that’s involved in my life. Leadership and consistency.”

Colorado has this final non-conference game on Saturday to find some answers as far as quarterback before league play opens the following weekend in the Big 12. That’ll begin with Salter as he’s, per reports, again set to be the Buffaloes’ QB1.
