Colorado‘s coaching staff had a little extra help ahead of the Buffaloes’ showdown against Houston on Friday evening. During the pregame warmups, legendary wide receiver Terrell Owens was spotted coaching up Colorado’s receiving corps.

It’d be difficult to find a much more qualified person to teach receivers. Owens played 15 seasons in the NFL. He ranks third in league history in career receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Owens was a five-time All-Pro and six-time Pro-Bowler. He led the league in receiving touchdowns in three separate seasons. In 2018, Owens was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

This isn’t the first time Owens has helped out Colorado. Ahead of Colorado’s Week 1 showdown against North Dakota State last season, Owens was seen helping quarterback Shedeur Sanders warm up. He’s also reportedly attended several of Colorado’s practices.

Terrell Owens and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders never played on the same team in the NFL. However, with the pair each boasting larger-than-life personalities, they developed a bond during their professional careers.

Evidently, Owens isn’t hesitating to help his longtime friend. Colorado will happily accept Owens’ wisdom. The Buffaloes are only averaging 213.5 passing yards per game this season, ranking 77th in the country.

In turn, the Buffaloes are expected to start former third-string QB Ryan Staub on Friday against Houston. Staub was initially behind Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and highly-touted freshman Julian Lewis on the Buffaloes’ depth chart.

Staub earned his snaps. In Colorado’s Week 2 win over Delaware, he completed 7-of-his-10 pass attempts for 158 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Sanders praised his budding star this week.

“He did what he was supposed to do,” Sanders said. “We did what we were supposed to do last week as a team. We need to do what we’re expected to do this week. Staub did what we expected him to do. You all are surprised. We weren’t.

“We’re thankful, appreciative and happy for him and elated for him. He sees the darn moment. We talk about the moment all the time in our meetings. We talk about taking advantage of opportunities not only on the football field, but in life. And he did that. He did that. I’m proud of him.”

Colorado will look to improve to 2-1 as it squares off against Houston (2-0) at 5:30 p.m. MDT. The game will air live on ESPN.
