2027 linebacker Broncs Baker commits to Cal

Broncs Baker is uncommitted no more. The 2027 linebacker from Stansbury Park (Utah) Stansbury became the first addition in Cal’s next recruiting class after committing on Saturday. Baker picked up an offer from the Bears in January and made multiple unofficial visits to Berkeley since then.
His last trip came just a couple weeks ago when he trekked to Berkeley for Cal’s home opener with Texas Southern. Arizona State and Kansas State also offered the 6-foot-1, 215-pound recruit. TCU, Indiana, Illinois, Purdue and Colorado State are some of the other schools that have expressed interest.
Inside linebacker continues to be an important position in Cal’s defense under Justin Wilcox. The Bears have had plenty of recent success at that spot including currently with star middle linebacker Cade Uluave.
Cal had inside linebacker Teddye Buchanan drafted from last year’s team, and there is a long string of high-level play at the position under Wilcox.
Baker is currently ranked 270th overall in the Rivals300. He is also the top-rated linebacker from Utah in the Rivals Industry Rankings for 2027.
Position coach Michael Bruno has been a strong recruiter for the Bears. The addition of Baker continues that trend. Cal has multiple linebackers committed for 2026 including Jonathan McKinley, Jaxon Pyatt and Rocky Cummings.
Second-year freshman Luke Ferrelli has emerged as a star for the Bears in his first season as a starter. Uluave still has one season of remaining eligibility, but the Bears have to start preparing for the future. Baker is another piece to add to the mix for the coming years at the position in Berkeley.
