TJ Bush Jr. will get an opportunity to return to his home state this week when Cal travels to face Virginia Tech. The first-year Bears outside linebacker and transfer from Liberty has become a key part of the defense in Berkeley.

Bush said he will have several family and friends in attendance for Friday’s matchup with the Hokies despite growing up close to four hours away from Blacksburg. It will still be an opportunity for the junior to play closer to his neck of the woods.

“I’m a lot closer to UVA, but it’s still in the same state,” he said Tuesday. “A lot of my family is still in Virginia. So, mom, dad, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends from the area. All those people.”

Cal has been blaring Metallica’s Enter Sandman around the football facility and practice to prepare for the atmosphere at Lane Stadium. The opportunity to visit Virginia Tech is certainly something Bush is excited about.

“We definitely have heard a little Enter Sandman,” Bush said.

On the other side of the ball, Cal is working to have a better showing in the passing game this week. Tight end Mason Mini was one of the players who struggled with drops against North Carolina. He hopes to see improvement as the Bears head to Virginia Tech.

“Definitely, we haven’t played our best ball and I think this week could be one of those games,” he said Tuesday. “Last week beginning of the game, I thought that was gonna be one of the games that we were gonna have 50 points. But, didn’t end up being that. … I think we just gotta focus just the whole game as an offense. Focus, focus, focus. That’s what we’ve been talking about a lot this week.”
