Cal-Virginia matchup selected for six-day TV hold

Cal will have to wait until after this week’s trip to Virginia Tech to find out what time its Week 10 matchup with Virginia will kick off. The contest slated for Nov. 1 at California Memorial Stadium has been selected as one of the games under a six-day hold by TV partners.
Virginia is currently ranked No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 poll after reeling off five consecutive wins. The Cavaliers are 6-1 this season and in second place in the ACC race behind unbeaten Georgia Tech. Cal has not played its best in recent games but sits at 5-2 heading into its Week 9 game with the Hokies.
Justin Wilcox‘s team is currently in seventh place in the conference standings with a 2-1 record in league play. Cal knocked off North Carolina on Friday night, 21-18.
Georgia Tech’s matchup with NC State, Miami at SMU and Notre Dame at Boston College are the other three games without a kickoff time.
The 7:30 p.m. slot remains open, and the Bears have played multiple games in that window this season already. That includes its previous two home games against Duke and UNC.
This week’s matchup against Virginia Tech will kick off at 4:30 p.m. on the West Coast. It will be a 7:30 p.m. local kick in Blacksburg on Friday.
Cal fans hoping to see ESPN College Gameday back in Berkeley in Week 10
Cal fans are already taking to social media in hopes of the delay being tied to another appearance on ESPN College Gameday.
The program successfully hosted the weekly national pregame show last season and garnered praise for the turnout and reception. The Bears received a 7:30 p.m. PT kickoff for the game that Saturday in what ended as a 39-38 loss to No. 18 Miami.
The list of marquee games for Week 10 is slim, and the decision to move Cal/Virginia to the six-day window certainly adds some intrigue.
