ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported during Arkansas‘ 52-37 loss to Texas on Saturday that Arkansas was linked to four names as the almost two-month search for the Razorbacks’ 35th head football coach appears to be reaching a conclusion.

Those names were: USF head coach Alex Golesh, North Texas head coach Eric Morris, Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield, and Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack.

Wommack, who graduated from Fayetteville High and played two seasons for the Hogs, was asked about the speculation during a press conference on Monday morning and diverted back to his current position with Alabama football.

“I appreciate the question but, you know, I am just not going to address any job opportunity stuff,” Wommack said.

In the final week of the 2025 College Football regular season with a full slate, Wommack’s Crimson Tide defense ranks ninth nationally in total defense (270.5) and 10th in scoring defense (16.2). Before arriving in Tuscaloosa in 2024, Wommack was the head coach for South Alabama from 2021-23 where he led the Jaguars to a 22-16 record, including the second 10-win season in school history in 2022.

Wommack, 38, is the son of former Arkansas defensive coordinator Dave Wommack, who worked under Houston Nutt from 2001-04, first as defensive backs coach in 2001 and then coordinated the defense from 2002-04.

Kane Wommack played fullback for Arkansas during the 2005 and 2006 seasons before following his father to Southern Miss in 2007 where he finished his playing career in 2009 with the Golden Eagles. Kane Wommack has also worked at Tennessee-Martin, Jacksonville State, Ole Miss, Eastern Illinois, and Indiana.
