Arkansas head football coach Sam Pittman met with the media on Monday and this availability had a little bit different of a feel with the season opener against Alabama A&M just five days away.

“Well, it’s really nice to have a home opener,” Pittman said regarding the Hogs’ first game being at Reynolds Razorback Stadium for the first time since 2022. “What looks like a pretty good temperature game as well. And we’re certainly hoping that a lot of Hog fans are in the stands, and we have a lot of respect for Alabama A&M and their staff. We’ve got a good team, but we have to put a good team out there every Saturday.”

Arkansas mostly got out of fall camp injury free

The top headline on the injury front for the Hogs was the knee of transfer defensive lineman David Oke that Pittman mentioned following the second scrimmage of fall camp on Aug. 16 that would likely cause him to miss at least the opener.

Oke was not listed on the depth chart and Pittman confirmed he will not play. Cam Ball and Ian Geffrard will start, while converted offensive lineman Keyshawn Blackstock and true freshman Kevin Oatis will back up Ball and Danny Saili will be a reserve for Geffrard.

Heralded freshman wide receiver Antonio Jordan is “doubtful” with an ankle injury and fellow wideout Raylen Sharpe should be ready to go after dealing with a setback with his foot.

“If last week’s any indication, he’s ready to go,” Pittman said regarding Sharpe.

Veteran linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. missed some of the final days of fall camp nursing a hamstring injury, but expects to start against the Bulldogs.

“We believe he will practice today and be ready for Saturday,” Pittman said.

The Razorbacks and Bulldogs kick off at 3:15 p.m. CT Saturday afternoon and the game will be aired on the SEC Network.
