Baltimore Orioles select Arkansas SS Wehiwa Aloy 31st overall

Arkansas Razorbacks shortstop Wehiwa Aloy was selected 31st overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2025 MLB Draft Sunday. He was a first round compensation pick and picked by the O’s right behind Coastal Carolina’s Caden Bodine.
Aloy joins RHP Gage Wood as the only two first round selections in school history for the same draft.
The Hawaii native was named this season’s Golden Spikes Award winner and SEC Player of the Year after tallying a .350/.434/.673 slash line in 266 at-bats with 93 hits, 19 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs and 68 runs batted in, plus an SEC-best 81 runs scored, while starting all 65 games for the Hogs. Defensively, Aloy compiled a .978 fielding percentage while being charged with just five errors.
He was the first player born outside of the U.S. mainland to win the Golden Spikes and the third all-time Razorback, joining Andrew Benintendi (2015) and Kevin Kopps (2021).
Additional honors to Aloy’s lengthy resume from this season include being selected to six All-American teams, the Fayetteville Regional All-Tournament Team and Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll, plus he earned the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award.
Over the course of his college career, Aloy slashed .332/.406/.609 in 737 at-bats with 245 hits, 43 doubles, seven triples, 49 home runs and 170 RBI in 181 games.
Aloy transferred to Arkansas from Sacramento State following the 2023 season. In his lone campaign with the Hornets, Aloy appeared in 56 games and slashed .376/.427/.662 in 234 at-bats with 88 hits, 15 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs and 46 RBI. He was named to five Freshman All-American teams that season, as well as tabbed WAC Freshman of the Year.
