Arkansas sophomore running back Braylen Russell was named to the 2025 Doak Walked Award watch list that was released by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum on Tuesday. The Doak Walker Award is given annually to college football’s top running back.

The 6-foot-1, 238-pound Benton graduate played in 10 games during his freshman season and finished third on the team in rushing yards with 354 on 67 carries (5.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns.

Russell’s highlight performance came in a win against Mississippi State in which he gashed the Bulldogs for 175 yards. He was the first Arkansas running back to rush for 175 or more yards in a game since the great Darren McFadden – who was a two-time Doak Walker winner in 2006 and 2007.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.

The winner of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2025.

Arkansas just wrapped up its fifth practice of fall camp and will get the day off on Wednesday.
