Tech adds second defensive line commit from Florida this week following Freddie Wilson’s pledge on Sunday

Georgia Tech’s 2026 class grew in size and number on Thursday afternoon when big defensive lineman Amier Clarke committed to the Jackets and head coach Brent Key over other final schools Syracuse, Boston College and Rutgers.

Clarke made the commitment official via his social media as he chose Tech over close to 20 other offers from schools all across the country. The Osceola (Fla.) High defensive playmaker up front received the offer from the Jackets back in May and quickly set up an official visit to The Flats, which he took May 30-June 1.

In an interview with JOL following that visit, Clarke had nothing but great things to say about Georgia Tech and Key.

“I had a great time in Atlanta this past weekend,” Clarke said. “Loved the environment, coaches and academic program. It was my first time meeting Coach (Brent) Key. He’s a good guy. He believes I can be a huge impact to the team.”

Clarke followed up with JOL just before his commitment on Thursday and said Georgia Tech’s defensive line coach Jess Simpson was also a big part of why he chose the Jackets.

“Coach Simpson is a great D-line coach, and I feel like he will be the best coach to develop me to the next level,” said Clarke. “When I told him and the other coaches I was committing, they were all excited.”

Where does this commitment put Tech’s 2026 class overall?

Clarke is the 21st overall commitment in Tech’s 2026 class and ninth on the defensive side of the ball. His news comes on the heels of the Jackets adding fellow defensive lineman from the state of Florida, Freddie Wilson, to the class with his commitment on Sunday.

He is the sixth Jackets’ commitment from The Sunshine State in this recruiting cycle along with Wilson, defensive end Alex Willis, wide receiver Jeffar Jean-Noel, linebacker Kymani Morales and cornerback Ladarrious (LJ) Crumity.

Clarke is Tech’s fourth commitment of July following a big June for the class after tight end Nathan Agyemang committed on July 1st, edge Chris Carbin committed on July 4th and Wilson committed this past Sunday (July 6th).

Clarke’s commitment should slightly bump the Jackets up in the 2026 On3/Rival team recruiting rankings as they sat at No. 39 prior to Thursday’s news with an overall score of 86.860 just behind TCU (86.933) and Iowa (86.947).
