The big games are coming

The 2025 JUCO football campaign has entered the second half of the season, which means that a ton of big games are coming.  As many as 20-25 programs still have shot at claiming the 21st annual Dirty 30 title with a handful of games remaining on the regular season schedule.

2025 is shaping up to be one of the most evenly matched seasons in our 21 years of ranking the teams.  Top-ranked Hutchinson, No. 2 San Mateo, No.3 Gulf Coast and No. 4 Golden West have somewhat separated themselves from the pack through 6-7 weeks of competition, but a whole slew of programs are laying in the weeds and waiting for their chance.

The biggest game last week had San Mateo hosting Diablo Valley and the fellas from CSM won their 15th straight game but had to battle until the end to hold off a very good DVC squad before winning 30-24.  Diablo only dropped a few spots to No. 10 as a result of outgaining the Bulldogs 369-140 in the game.  Those two teams could very likely meet again down the road in the playoffs, provided DVC doesn’t slip up down the stretch.

A massive game looms in Mississippi this Thursday when No. 3 Gulf Coast hosts No. 8 Copiah Lincoln.  A win by Gulf Coast would go a long ways towards cementing a spot in the playoffs while Co-Lin can ill-afford another loss on the schedule.

The Southern California ranks are truly up for grabs.  No. 4 Golden West, No. 6 Ventura and No. 13 Southwestern are the remaining undefeated programs in the region but the three squads have exactly one win against programs ranked in the top 25.  Golden West’s benchmark win was a 7-point victory over No. 26 Riverside City while Ventura defeated No. 9 Fullerton by a field goal in week two.  Southwestern’s highest-rated opponent was No. 49 San Diego Mesa, who they beat in overtime.  Ventura has the easiest path moving forward, but a date with No. 16 Mt. San Antonio in the final week of the season is likely to be a slobberknocker.  Golden West has a tougher path with No. 28 Cerritos and No. 9 Fullerton remaining.  Southwestern has the toughest path with No. 26 Riverside City, No. 25 El Camino and No. 11 Saddleback over the next three weeks.

The Southwest Junior College Football Conference ranks look a close race.  No. 7 Tyler is the lone remaining undefeated program after dismantling Blinn, 55-7, over the weekend.  The Apaches have battles against No. 43 Cisco, Kilgore and No. 19 Navarro left on the schedule before they can claim a SWJCFC title.  With a current ranking of No. 3 in the NJCAA Rankings, Tyler has a good track towards a final-four NJCAA appearance if they can run the table in conference play.

Here is the rest of the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings.  Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not count games against unaffiliated programs or club programs in the rankings.
