On top of the loss, it might’ve come at a price for the Wolverines or, at the very least, something to monitor moving forward.
Running back Justice Haynes departed the game late in the first half after receiving a hit to the midsection and was quickly escorted to the locker room. Despite returning to the sidelines in the second half, wearing his uniform and helmet, he was held out for the remainder of the game.
After the game, U-M head coach Sherrone Moore discussed how Haynes’ departure impacted the offense and whether he was at all concerned about his status moving forward.
“I think the game plan was the same,” Moore told reporters. “We did the same thing we were going to do with the game plan. And he’ll be okay. So we’ll just see how he goes as we go through the week.”
According to the NBC broadcast, Moore said that Haynes would be available to play in the second half. Haynes was seen on the broadcast being worked on by the training staff on multiple occasions.
Moore reiterated after the game that Haynes’ could’ve played, but the medical staff elected to hold him out for the remainder of the game for precautionary reasons, as he was asked to address the particulars of the injury.
“Just something inside,” Moore said. “He came back out and was working through it, probably could have went. Extra cautious on our student athletes when anything happens to them. So make sure they’re okay. But the game plan was the same.”
