Michigan Football: U-M dismisses special teams coach JB Brown

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore didn’t waste any time addressing his coaching staff once the regular season ended, as he dismissed special teams coordinator J.B. Brown on Wednesday.

The news comes after a season in which special teams struggled mightily, whether it was poor punting, a lack of kick and punt return yardage, or even All-American kicker Dominic Zvada taking a step back. The move opens a spot on Moore’s staff for him to fill as he sees fit.

U-M confirmed Brown’s departure in a press release on Wednesday evening.

“After thoroughly evaluating our special teams’ performance throughout the season, I made the decision to make a change that was in the best interest of the program,” Moore said in a statement. “I want to thank JB Brown for his unwavering dedication and the positive impact he’s had on our players and program. We are grateful for his commitment, and I wish him nothing but success as he continues his coaching career.”

According to the press release, the Wolverines will look for a replacement special teams coordinator on the staff.

Brown’s departure marks the second year in a row that Moore has made a quick decision on the future of his staff, as he dismissed offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell shortly after the regular season ended in 2024.
